Waste Technician

We are recruiting a Waste Technician to join our Site Services team based out of our Whitley (DN14 0HR) location. This is a site-based role.

What will you be doing in this role?
The Waste Technician will provide an effective, efficient, compliant and safe waste management service on site. Responsible for collection, segregation, weighing, recording and transfer of waste. The role will also assist in ensuring external areas are clean, safe and presentable. The role will also support the site services manager with ad hoc tasks.
The Ideal candidate:
We are looking for someone with experience in waste management with some computer literacy and, if possible, experience of driving a forklift truck

Key skills and experience:
· Demonstrable knowledge and experience of driving a forklift truck
· Demonstrable experience in a similar role
Required competencies
· Physically capable of manual tasks such as lifting, bending and walking over longer periods.
· Forklift license
· To work with minimal supervision
· Understanding the principles of segregation of waste and recycling.
· Basic IT knowledge.
· Adaptable to change.
· Good communication skills.
· Capable of working in demand driven service.
· Working to deadlines.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
• Provide a waste segregation, collection and disposal service across site with a focus on production areas
• Collection of waste
• Segregation of waste
• Dismantling of equipment to remove WEEE components
• Operate bailing equipment
• Weighing and recording of waste to be transferred
• Use a forklift truck to load waste onto lorries and move items around site
• Complete waste transfer documentation
• General housekeeping around site (litter picking, bin emptying etc)
• Gritting areas of site during winter periods
