Group Financial Accountant

We are recruiting a Group Financial Accountant to join our Group Finance Team based out of our Whitley (DN14 0HR) location. Flexible hybrid working is available.
What will you be doing in this role?
The Group Financial Accountant is responsible for owning the preparation of the group management accounts pack and providing insightful reporting through consolidation, performance analysis and variance commentary to drive performance amongst other duties.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Prepare the monthly consolidated accounts, working as part of the wider Group Finance team.
Own the preparation of the monthly Group management accounts pack, including updating reports with the latest results and variances and forming supporting commentary to meet corporate deadlines.
Review and challenge regional performance vs forecast to provide clarity over drivers of Group performance to senior management and the Board.
Consolidate the weekly regional STCF submissions and produce the Group STCF summary, continuously challenging and improving the process.
Support the annual budget and forecasting processes, including creating and maintaining templates and assisting with submissions from regional teams.
Support monthly calls with international finance teams.
Assist in responding to queries from internal and external customers (Senior Management, Board, banking syndicate, etc.) and the production of ad-hoc reports in response to such queries.
Provide modelling, financial planning & analysis and ad hoc financial support as required outside the day-to-day operations of the business.
Assisting in the preparation of the year end consolidation package and consolidated reporting process, and assistance where required on the year end statutory accounts process.
Other tasks and duties as required by Senior Finance Partner, Director of Group Finance and wider Group Finance team.
Required skills and experience
Qualified accountant, preferably ICAEW
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, complex formulas)
Experience of monthly reporting and management accounts preparation
Excellent communication skills; written & oral and great attention to detail
Intellectual curiosity focused on understanding the factors affecting commercial performance
Ability to dissect multiple financial data sets to provide focused understanding of performance
Required competencies
Solid qualitative, quantitative and analytical skills; critical business sense.
Committed to outstanding delivery with strong attention to detail.
Able to multi-task effectively
Great relationship building skills; able to develop close and constructive relationships at all levels
The ability to focus on critical matters and to exclude less productive activity
Confident and unafraid to ask challenging questions.
Desirable skills and experience
Experience of working in a group environment and hands on consolidation experience
Knowledge of Tagetik would be an advantage, as would experience with any other financial consolidation systems (MS Dynamics, Sage, Epicor, Hyperion, etc)
Experience of using Power BI or Power Pivot
Experience with AI systems and their use in improving processes.
Knowledge of IFRS accounting
